Knowledge Bound is a place that goes beyond being a retail store and provides hand selected, top quality educational toys and tools. When you walk in to the store, you will be welcomed into the well-organized environment, complete with hands-on displays and a knowledgeable friendly staff to serve your needs.
While attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, I also worked part time at the Child Development Center on Nellis Air Force Base. I studied Elementary Education and graduated from UNLV in 1992. After graduation, my husband’s Air Force Career took our family to Germany. While we lived in Germany with our two young daughters, I worked as the assistant director and staff trainer for the Child Development Center. As with all military families, eventually it was time to move again! We moved a few hours away to another base in Germany. I was a long-term substitute at the elementary school. I taught reading and then 4th grade.
In 1997, we decided we wanted to move back to Colorado. My husband headed back to college and I began teaching for Poudre School District in Fort Collins, CO where I taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade.
During the time I was teaching in Fort Collins, I talked a lot about the idea of opening my own teacher store. For nearly a decade, I shared this dream with coworkers. In 2005, I finalized the planning and opened Knowledge Bound. With some retail experience and a lot of teacher experience, I was ready! At least I thought I was…the first several years were a huge learning curve! There was so much more to running a teacher store than just being a teacher!! I learned a lot about running a store from my parents who were former business owners. Without their support and knowledge, I would have never made it past the first year.
The transition from being a teacher to a business owner was a huge step. Every day is a challenge… one that blends my love of teaching and education with my desire to do new things and be successful.
I believe the ultimate measure of success for Knowledge Bound is the reputation we have within the Northern Colorado and Wyoming communities. I am proud of the reputation we have built over the years as the ‘go to place’ for unique educational items and top-quality service. We are in business to create a space that provides products to inspire life-long learners, knowledgeable staff to help our customers, and to support our communities by providing donations, tax revenue, and employment opportunities.
My husband, Rob, and I have been married since 1989. We were high school sweethearts and still enjoy every minute we spend together. We like playing golf and traveling. We spend as much time as possible with our two grown daughters, grandchildren, and grand-dog, Duke.
My long term goals are simply to be happy, appreciate life every day, and spend as much time as possible enjoying my family.
